The school for mentally handicapped children was supported by the International Committee: Aid from Journalists. This school is in Kwale town south of Mombasa, Kenya The School started as a Unit for the mentally handicapped on the 17th of October 1978, attached to Kwale Primary School and under the management of Kwale School for the Deaf. From that time to date the school (1979) moved to its present site and has stood with an enrolment of (120) children while also accommodating a Unit for the Cerebral Palsy Children (physically handicapped). There are also several children who are using wheelchairs. The school is now a boarding school with accommodation for all children.

Especially the physically handicapped children need constant physiotherapy to help them improve. The school currently doesn’t have their own physiotherapists, so that the 4asmile Foundation had the idea to pay a little “extra” to the physiotherapists of Kwale District Hospital (situated only 500 meters form the school) to treat those children twice a week.

The physiotherapists get 2.000 KES (about 20 Euro) per week so that the donation of 400 Euro from Journalisten Helfen e.V. has assured that this physiotherapy program continues for at least another 5 months.
